Twitter or Bitter? which are you?
Monday, 21 September 2009
Overhyped and overblown, or the next paradigm shift in
communications? Distracting marketers from the stuff they should be
doing, or rightly, the most important thing on their radar. Since the
funky micro-blogging tool went mainstream, Twittermania has rocked our
worlds: from Jonathan Ross to the Daily Mail you can’t escape small
blue birds and big blue whales. Tonight leading industry figures argue
the pros and cons, highs and lows, loves and hates of sending 140
characters to the rest of the world. Twits or tweets? You decide.
Guavarian Matt Whelan will be on the panel taking part in the debate.
When: Wed 23 Sep ‘09
Where: Graphic Bar, 4 Golden Square, Soho, London, W1F 9HT Google map and directions
What time: 6– 9pm | Debating from 6.45pm – 7.30pm | Cocktail bar open till midnight
Visit the NetNights website to register for the event: http://www.netimperative.com/events/net-nights-twitter-or-bitter
That graphic is brilliant, I hate Marmite and I am not personally a big fan of twitter, it is great to get small messages out there every so often but I have heard of twitter addicts who seem to be worse than facebook and myspace addicts. They sit all day staring at there twits and tweets to see if they get a reply, 'I'm off to the bathroom to go to the loo' 'I'm back to let you know I am now going to make a tea' It gets a bit sad in my opinion. When people have followers they will feel special but it is all electro nonsense. It is not in the slightest the way Hitler, Napoleon, Caesar, or even Jesus had followers, but I know a guy who spends his life sitting at his computer all day and night and he will be under the impression he is Mr Cool. Marmite and Twitter good one!

Looks like a really interesting event, shame I can't make it.
I guess I would sit in the "hate it" camp on this debate, but I can see the draw it has on people and looking at recent high profile events I can see that Twitter can bring good.
I'm just not egotistical enough to want people to care about my life!

Personally I`m in the middle somewhere. There are benefits to it, especially for when events are happening, you can keep up to date quickly. There are many benefits to it, however there are those that find it addictive, to the point of it being distractive during work and at home. There is an argument for these people to get out more and I agree. Letting someone know what you`re up to is fine but I don`t feel the urge to tell the world I`m making a cup of tea or eating a sandwich. I think in some ways it is more sad that there are those that actually read in anticipation of other`s activities, than those that are actually posting.
