Web 2.0 Summit SF - Arrival and Election Day

Wednesday, 05 November 2008

What a day to arrive in San Francisco, the 4th of November, the day before the Web 2.0 Summit starts, and the day of the US election. The theme for the Web 2.0 Summit this year is 'Web Meets World', and one of the speakers I am interested in meeting is Al Gore for Current, so it's coincidental timing that the elections are on.

After a long and delayed flight, the first person I bump into at the hotel check-in is Duane Nickull (Senior Technology Evangelist, Adobe Systems). Guava have been having lots of discussions with him about Flash & Search so it's great to finally meet in person. Duanes just been at the Web 2.0 Conference in Berlin which he said was really good.

Pretty worn out from the flight I decide to go buy some Melatonin to help ease the jet lag and try to synchronize my circadian rhythms to pacific time, I've been told by a friend it really works. You can't buy it in the UK accept online, so I go hunt some out at a downtown SF pharmacy and decide to to hit the sack early.

I wake around 10pm I can hear car horns beeping everywhere outside - Barrack Obama is president! and it is a momentus day for America. What a great start to this trip.
