Mass hysteria is with us again....

In the scramble for advertising that will inevitably migrate
from online to mobile web, Google’s mobile search is on the rise.
Many things can said about Google’s new
(UK) mobile search, users have the ability to search and browse results on their mobiles but for whatever reason mobile search has now, with the UK launch, hit the
big-time and predictably companies will soon begin pay for SEO work on their mobile
sites.
By SEO I don’t necessarily mean the on site approach, the off site campaign is sometimes a large part of a companies want and need. With more and more companies starting to create quality .mobi websites there will soon be race for ranking positions.
Spending some time researching the subject has shown me that there is an immense amount of content on the .mobi web, most of it being complete babbling nonsense, forums or feeble efforts to create one page 'brand awareness' site with nothing but a contact address on it. At the end of the day isn’t this how the internet we come to know and love today began to grow into an awe inspiring virtual arena?
I have
even found directories and SEO services already directed towards the mobile
search. Even though this may not be news to search vet's, I think the
companies that are still in the dark ages and using the classic methods of search marketing are
loosing out to a more controversial and mad-alternative-universe of search that is now available
to us.
With the Google Search being around for around a year now, the influx of net ready mobile phones and
the rate that technology is progressing, soon more iPhone style products
will be seen on shelves and in our pockets. Does this mean mobile search is going to be a
valuable asset in providing companies with a Mobile presence, or could it be a waste of time.
I'm still undecided.......
