Google and Buying/Selling Links
Friday, 19 October 2007
This is
obviously against Google’s guidelines and they will more than likely penalise
you if they find out you are buying/selling text links. Google say they have an
algorithm for detecting sites selling/buying backlinks and adjust there
rankings respectively and recommend adding “nofollow” tags, to outgoing links
that you do not want to be flagged as sold. But this brings some questions to
the table:
- Is Google trying to change the internet html standards?
- If I link to a website, and don’t know about the nofollow “rule” will I get penalised?
- What is stopping my competitors from buying links for me?
- Will Google detect natural links as sold links?
- How does Google know I sold a link? They can’t read my mind!
The above
are a few questions of many surrounding buying and selling backlinks, but
personally I don’t think we have much to worry about....
Google is so powerful where big companies had to change their business models to catch up with them. Yes, many people are finding stuff on social media but Google hasn’t seen the impact of that yet and will not see an impact on their business any time soon.

Buy and sell links. God forbid Internet marketers dare defy big brother's wishes. I mean. Who are we to mess up their business model based on link democracy?
Personally I don't buy and sell links for my sites. Its just not relevant form my field. But their spiders will always make mistakes what ever you do. Google is not all seeing all knowing...just yet!
