Where Have All the UK Websites Gone?
Wednesday, 06 June 2007
Checking the UK indexing of a website on Tuesday 6th June I discovered the site, to my shock, had no pages indexed in: pages from the UK.
So a little investigating was called for, and woe and behold my site wasn't the only site missing in pages from the UK, in fact quite a few popular site's seemed to be missing:
www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/
On carrying out a reasonable check I discovered (naturally) that the sites hadn't really vanished in Pages from the UK search:
So what is this, has Google changed its indexing of UK pages, or is this a rare Google blip ;-)
Using site command on the UK pages sometime ago was showing you the supplemental pages of the site you where asking for... So probably Gguys changed their minds... cheers

Interesting observation. I've noticed quite a few odd goings-on with the 'pages from the uk' search in Google. I'd love to see some proper data on how many people actually use that option - I'm of the opinion that most users simply refine their search rather than using the radio button.
I don't think it'll be too long before G gets rid of that option and just intelligently knows whether you are looking for UK results or not by your location and your search query.
Still - nice catch :-)
