New Google 'Dual Results' Dissatisfied SERP
Friday, 12 August 2005
The team were just running a search against Telemedia the European Internet event and spotted something interesting on the Google SERP. A new 'Dual Results' SERP, possibly a Google test of some kind.
The SERP shows the top 5 results directly for the target keyphrase 'telemedia' but also shows the top 3 results separately lower down the page for the search 'telemedia cable' with the following text:
It looks like Google are testing which results are more popular with the user in order to improve their relevancy, as this is different to their default misspelling text. It looks like the option is added when a particular group of results come back next to each other containing a similar topic, in this case 'cable'
However it doesn't seem to be related to the volume of searches for the new keyphrase as a quick check in the Google Keyword Tool does not list "telemedia cable" as a more specific popular search.
Click the thumbnail below for a large screenshot of the page in question.
If anyone can find any more searches where this occurs please let us know in the comments.
'Hotel California' gets a 'Hotel California Lyrics' suggestion... also 'jay is' gets a 'jay is games' suggestion. Interestingly, the person on this page:

couldn't get it to work for him... I wonder if it pulls items from "Google Suggest"?

When I typed a search query of "search engine optimization india" in www.google.com I found the same results with breaks: 1st three results were for "search engine optimization india", where as following 3 were for only "search engine optimization" (india was excluded) and after this next 3 result for "search engine optimization", again a break was there and next results were showed for "search engine optimization india".
