YubNub Command Line Web Search

Friday, 17 June 2005

What is YubNub?

Created by Jon Aquino, YubNub is described as a command line for the web. After setting it up on your browser, you simply type "gim porsche 911" to do a Google Image Search for pictures of Porsche 911 sports cars. Type "random 49" to return random numbers between 1 and 49, courtesy of random.org.

The best feature is that you can make a new command by giving YubNub an appropriate URL. It can then be used by anyone else on the internet. For example we created a pair called linkstoall and satall to show backlinks and saturation across most major search engines.

Although the mechanism is incredibly basic and it could do with some sort of filter process to prevent spam getting through, it just goes to show, the simplest ideas well executed are the best.

If you're searching for a Porsche picture I'd recommend the Carrera 4S :)

Hi Teddie - Sounds like you're delighted with YubNub. You're right about simplicity being a very good thing.
